Continental's Gatorskin tire is the right choice when it comes to tough conditions. Our preferred road tire for Sedona!
With the PolyX Breaker®, Continental brings their car expertise to the bicycle tire segment: Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tires and has been tried and tested many times. The extremely resistant polyester fiber is woven tightly crosswise. In this way, a very high fabric density is reached, which makes the Breaker more resistant to foreign objects and is especially resistant to punctures. The rolling resistance is also not negatively affected by the PolyX Breaker®.
DuraSkin: To roll with the punches.
Tires with DuraSkin® sidewall protection have to be able to roll with the punches. They are used under the harshest conditions. On messenger bikes, the tires skid along curbs; they cross continents without wearing out on touring bikes. In racing cycling, they have to endure tough tests such as the Paris-Roubaix. The high-quality polyamide fabric protects the tire casing against the worst conditions. These tires stand out thanks to their brown sidewalls.
They last practically forever and are highly resistant to punctures. OK, there are faster tires, but on long road trips far from home I don't want to be bothered by flats. Thunder Mountain sent the tires promptly and at a good price relative to other vendors. I wanted to try 28 mm on my bike, but the rear tire was about a 1 mm too tall and rubbed a bit on my old Fuji Roubaix. However, they fit nicely on my wife's Giant and give her a softer grippier ride. I'm back to Gatorskin 25 mm on the Fuji and getting great service from them.
